Video: Esurance Recognizes All Marriages and #EqualDreams — Insurance Company Acts on Belief That, in the Modern World, All Dreams Should be Equal

SAN FRANCISCO — June 22, 2015

Esurance released "#EqualDreams," a new video that takes a position that all people's dreams should be equal. The film, which was shot at a real wedding, features children and gay teens who are asked to describe, in their words, what their future wedding day would be like. "We created this online film to show, in an emotionally compelling way, our belief that all dreams should be equal," said Esurance Chief Marketing Officer Alan Gellman. "But it's not just a belief. As a modern company, we act on that belief through our products and insurance offerings."

In every state where Esurance can give couples a married rate, it extends that married rate to either married gay couples, domestic partners or those in civil unions — even in states that do not allow same-sex marriages. Esurance was one of the first car insurance companies to extend the married rate to LGBT customers. Something it started doing in 2011.

"Esurance recognizes all marriages. Plain and simple," said Nancy Abraham, Vice President, Integrated Marketing Communications. "This is an important moment in history. Through #EqualDreams, we wanted to stand with our LGBT friends and family, employees and customers and let them know we have them covered."

The video, created by Leo Burnett Chicago, was filmed at a wedding on June 13, 2015 in Chicago. In addition to young children, gay teens appear in the video describing the doubt they had about the chance to one day get married. "I knew that I was different and I didn't see anyone around me like me who, you know, were two women living together as a married couple. I just couldn't picture it," said Shannon, a gay teen interviewed in the video.

Ruby, a girl at the wedding, concludes "everybody's dreams should be allowed to come true because everyone should be happy."

"Sometimes children can make complex issues so simple. They remind us what it's like to have dreams," said Brian Shembeda, EVP, Creative Director, Leo Burnett Chicago. "Their words, as heard in the video, help us understand why equality is important. Because all children deserve the same right to pursue their dreams."
