Find out why it's vital to have the correct personal info on your policy and how to quickly access your essential documents.
Why is it so important for me to have the correct address listed on my policy?
In most states, your ZIP Code plays a role in the final price of your premium. It's important for us to have your correct
address on file to give you the best, most accurate price.
Plus, even though we're mostly paperless, if we ever have to send you important information by mail, we'll need your
correct address in order to get you the essential info.
I recently updated my address. Why did my premium increase?
Because your ZIP Code typically factors into your rate, moving to a new address in a different ZIP Code could cause your
premium to rise or fall.
For instance, if you moved from a small suburb with a low crime rate to a large urban center known for car thefts, your
rate could increase to account for the added risk.
Can I use a different garaging address to get a lower rate?
No. Because we use your ZIP Code to accurately determine your rate, we need your correct garaging address to ensure that
you're getting the fairest and most accurate price.
Can I change my address online?
You bet. Just
log into your policy
to make the change. Click on the "Contact Info" tab to update your personal info, enter your new address, and presto.
Within 24 hours your changes should be processed.
Why do I need to provide proof of my address?
We may ask for your proof of address to verify the information we have on file and make sure you're getting the most
accurate rate.
How do I access my car insurance documents?
After
logging into your policy, go to the "Documents & emails" section. In this section you can view and print
your ID cards and other auto insurance policy documents.
To print your docs, you'll need to
download Adobe Acrobat Reader (for free) if you don't already have it installed (but chances are you probably do).
If you've successfully installed Acrobat Reader and are having trouble viewing/printing your auto insurance documents,
call us at
1-800-ESURANCE (1-800-378-7262) and we'll be glad to help.
I just bought a policy. When will I get my car insurance documents?
With Esurance, you can print your temporary ID card right away. And within 24 to 48 hours, Esurance will send you an
email letting you know that your permanent documents are available online.
Keep in mind that your temporary ID card will expire after 48 hours.
Do I need to print my insurance ID cards?
In most cases, yes. While our
mobile apps let you view your ID cards at any time, you still need to print a hard copy. If you get pulled over
by the police, the officer will likely ask to see your insurance and may not accept your online document as valid, which
could lead to a violation for failing to provide proof of insurance.
I lost my ID card. How do I get a new one?
Getting another ID card is easy. After
logging into your policy, click on the "Your Documents" section. From there, you can view and print your
insurance cards, billing invoices, and other insurance policy documents.
Can you mail me my policy documents? Is there a charge for this service?
While we prefer to do things online (it's easier and it saves trees), we'd be more than happy to mail your documents
if you prefer. Keep in mind, though, that there is a $25 fee for this service unless you live in Alabama, Georgia, Maryland,
Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, or South Carolina.
I've just made changes to my policy. How do I find my new insurance documents?
When you make changes to your policy, it generally takes 24 hours for them to go into effect. But once they do, you can
conveniently find your new documents in the "Your Documents" section of your online account.
Which car insurance documents should I keep in my car?
The most important car insurance document to keep with you in most states, either in your car or your wallet, is your
insurance ID card. This proves that you're properly insured.
And if you have emergency road service through Esurance, carry your ERS card with you in case you need assistance.
When I buy a policy, does Esurance notify the state?
Not all states require notification, but if your state authority mandates it, we'll let the state know you're insured
with us.
How do I mail or fax the documents you requested?
When you send us a document, please include your name and Esurance policy number so we can quickly process it.
You can send your documents to the following address:
Esurance Customer Service
P.O. Box 5250
Sioux Falls, SD 57117-5250
Or you can fax us here:
Fax: 1-800-429-7905 (proof of prior insurance only)
Fax: 1-800-926-2869 (all other documents)
Are electronic documents legally binding?
Yes. Your electronic docs work the same way as a written, hard copy contract. When you buy your policy, you'll be asked
to read and accept our terms and conditions. By clicking "I Accept," you're legally accepting these terms.
How do I change my password?
Simply
log into your account using your email address and current password, then click on the "Change Password"
button. It's that easy!
How do I update my personal information (email address, phone number, etc.)?
To update your personal info, all you need to do is
log in. To update your email address, click on the "Update Email" button. To update your contact information,
click on the "Contact Info" tab.
How do I change the loan/lease info on my car insurance policy?
After you
log into your account, you'll see a summary of your policy information. To make changes to your loan/lease information,
click on the "Edit Cars" button next to the list of insured cars. You can then choose whether your car is
paid for, financed, or leased. If your car is financed or leased, we'll ask you to provide further loan/lease information.
You can also make changes by clicking on the "Cars" tab at the top of the page. When you see your car summary,
click the "Edit/Remove" button next to the vehicle you'd like to update. Changes are usually processed within
24 hours.
