domestic partners

domestic partners could save on car insurance

Insurance companies generally offer lower rates to married couples. But what about LGBT couples? Shouldn't the same logic apply? At Esurance, we think it should. In fact, we were one of the very first car insurance companies to extend the married rate to the LGBT community. And we now offer it to our motorcycle insurance customers too.

Today, you can get this rate in all states where we do business, except Florida and North Carolina where it's not approved by the department of insurance. Massachusetts does not allow the married rate, regardless of gender. Registered domestic partners in California should choose "Domestic partner (registered)" to receive this rate. In New York, you must be married to qualify.

what the married rate means for you

It's simple. If you and your partner are insured on the same policy, you can enjoy the same great car insurance savings as married couples — even in states that don't recognize your union.

Though the married rate is not a discount, it can provide a significant savings opportunity. Plus, if you and your partner own more than one car, you could also qualify for the Multi-Car discount. Just one more way to save money on insurance with Esurance.

how to sign up for the married rate

When you get your Esurance quote, you have 3 options to get the married rate.

  • Select "domestic partner" as your marital status
  • If you're in a registered domestic partnership in California, select "domestic partner (registered)"
  • If you're married, just select "married"

The savings you receive from the married rate will be automatically applied to your car insurance quote.
