One of the few car insurance companies to offer the married rate — a significant savings opportunity — to domestic partners in nearly every state where we do business, we also promote and sponsor Pride events around the country.
In 2011, we began working with The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. Calling on the support of our Facebook fans, we've helped raise awareness though donation campaigns like our 2012 photo mosaic. With the Facebook community's help, we reached our $50,000 donation goal in no time.
In 2013, we expanded our efforts by increasing our donation to $100,000. Once again, we called on our Facebook fans to help us distribute the money between 3 very worthwhile organizations: GLAAD, PFLAG, and, of course, The Trevor Project.
And in 2014, we launched our ePride Employee Resource Group, which brings together LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning) associates and their allies. The group uses community outreach and workplace collaboration to to increase awareness of LGBTQ issues.
The Esurance Veterans Engagement Team and Supporters (EVETS) program brings together veterans and family/friends of veterans within our company to offer one another support and help recruit former military personnel to Esurance. The group also partners with community outreach programs serving military members and their families.
Our Women's Innovation Network (WIN) is an Employee Resource Group dedicated to supporting women in the workplace. The group provides leadership development opportunities for the women at Esurance and champions work/life balance initiatives for all associates.
When cars are totaled, they're given a salvage title and usually sent to the scrap yard. But since 2008, Esurance has donated vehicles from our salvage inventory to Recycled Rides, a program that takes donated (totaled) vehicles, fixes them up, and gives them to families and service organizations in need.
We also encourage and support numerous volunteering efforts, and our associates play a huge role in our level of community involvement. Their enthusiasm for so many varied causes and concerns reflects not only their uniqueness and commitment, but also inspires us to do more each year.
The Esurance Matching Gift Program gives associates the opportunity to have donations to their favorite nonprofit organizations matched dollar for dollar (all the way up to $2,500) by Esurance.
In 2013, the program matched $108,336 — a 21 percent increase over 2012. And we've made it our goal to do even better in 2014!
Through our Give Time/Get Time program, Esurance rewards associates with extra paid time off for volunteering. Each associate is given 4 hours to use while volunteering, plus 4 hours of PTO to use as they choose.
Additionally, when an associate volunteers 8 hours to one organization, Esurance will donate to that organization through Dollars for Doers.
Through the Esurance Grant Program, associates can vote for local organizations to receive a charitable endowment from Esurance. Winning organizations receive a grant and volunteer support from the company. In 2013, Esurance donated more than $55,000 to associate-submitted causes.
