Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
PIP covers your reasonable expenses if you or your passengers are injured in an auto accident, regardless of fault.
PIP – Medical Limits
These may include medical and surgical treatment; dental and optometric treatment; ambulance and nursing services; and necessary medications, medical supplies, and prosthetic devices.
PIP – Economic Limits
- Lost Wages – If you or your passengers are unable to work due to accident-related injuries, PIP helps you recover your lost wages.
- Substitute Services – Should you or your regular passengers need help performing household or other tasks due to accident-related injuries, PIP also helps pay for such substitute services.
- Funeral Expenses – If a covered individual dies from accident-related injuries, PIP helps pay for related funeral expenses.
PIP - Stacking
By selecting stacking protection for PIP coverage, you increase your limits for medical and economic PIP coverage by the number of cars you’re insuring.
For example, if you were to insure 2 cars and select stacking, your PIP – Medical limit of $30,000 would double to $60,000 and your PIP – Economic limit of $20,000 would double to $40,000. If you were to insure 3 cars and choose stacking, these limits would increase to $90,000 and $60,000, respectively. Your deductible will not be affected if you choose the stacking option.
Selecting this option increases your premium.
PIP – Work loss waiver
Accepting the work loss waiver indicates that you’re at least 65 years old and not eligible to collect work loss benefits.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury
Uninsured/Underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage is required in this state with mandatory minimum limits of $25,000/$50,000. Also, if you want to carry this coverage on multiple vehicles, the limits must be the same for each vehicle.
If you’re injured in an accident caused by a driver who has no insurance coverage or insufficient coverage, uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage covers the following expenses:
- Medical
- Lost wages
- Other general damages
- Injuries sustained in hit-and-run accidents
Uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury provides coverage to the policyholder, authorized policy members, and passengers.
