Driving Safety Organizations Make the Road a Safer Place

Since we’re in the business of providing auto insurance, obviously, we’re interested in promoting safe driving. However, we’re not the only ones who take an interest in making our roads safer. Driving safety is such an important issue that several government and private organizations are dedicated to educating people on the subject.

Here are a few of our favorite sites where you can learn safe driving techniques, which apart from saving lives, could save you money on your auto insurance rates.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) monitors transportation safety and improvements needed in the air, land, and water. For more information about studies the NTSB has conducted, visit http://www.ntsb.gov/

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics at http://www.bts.gov/ gives statistics on traffic accidents.

The National Safety Council (NSC) seeks to improve safety on the road, in the workplace, and at home. Go to http://nsc.org/index.htm for tips you can use to drive safely and avoid auto insurance claims.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, is the safety authority on auto safety issues and regulations. Check out http://www.nhtsa.gov for information about accident statistics, driving safety tips, and vehicle crash test ratings.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety at www.highwaysafety.org is a great place to get information about your vehicle’s crash test performance, since crash tests are good indicators of how your vehicle will perform in an accident.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) reports that alcohol is a factor in 41% of fatal crashes. For more information on alcohol’s impact on driver safety, visit http://www.madd.org/home/.

Practice safe driving to reduce the risk of injury to yourself and others, and enjoy the added benefit of lower auto insurance premiums by avoiding accidents. You’ll find more information on how to drive safely and save on auto insurance as well in our Esurance Insights located in the auto insurance learning center.
