New Yorkers must have the following coverages to ride legally in the Empire State.
If you or another rider on your policy ever causes an accident, liability coverage helps protect your hard-earned savings by paying for others' injury and property damage costs. Here's the minimum amount of liability you must carry:
- $25,000 bodily injury per person
- $50,000 bodily injury per incident
- $10,000 property damage per incident
For more peace of mind, you can always select higher limits when you get your New York motorcycle insurance quote.
Uninsured motorist (UM) coverage
Roughly 1 out of every 20 motorists in New York is uninsured. And when you're stuck in downtown gridlock or it's rush hour on the L.I.E., that's not very happy math. Thankfully, you can rest a little easier with UM coverage, which helps pay your bodily injury costs if you're hit by an uninsured driver.
Minimum limits for UM are the same as the minimum bodily injury liability limits.
