Oregon and Esurance: The (Green) Dream Team
Oregon is known for its lush landscape and beautiful terrain. With beaches, wilderness areas, national parks, and, of course, Crater Lake, the Beaver State is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. Oregonians take pride in their picturesque state, and know the importance of preserving its natural beauty. That’s why Esurance feels right at home in Oregon: a green auto insurance company insuring a green state!
Below are some everyday ways to make Oregon (and the rest of the world) a little greener, both on and off the road.
On the road
- Take public transportation. Fewer cars on the road mean less carbon dioxide in the air. If public transportation is available in your area, it can be a great alternative to driving. Likewise, walking, rollerblading, and bike riding are all great forms of exercise that can also help you avoid costly gas prices and aggravating traffic.
- Carpool. Believe it or not, every gallon of gas your car burns puts 20 pounds of carbon dioxide in the air. By sharing your commute with even just one other person, you'd be cutting that amount in half. You may even find that your city offers organized ride shares for commuters. Not only will you save on gas, you might make a new friend!
- Drive a fuel-efficient vehicle. Next time you're in the market for a new car, consider a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). Hybrid vehicles can reduce the emission of smog-forming pollutants by up to 90% and cut carbon dioxide emissions in half! That's why Esurance uses hybrid claims vehicles wherever they're available. For more information on HEVs, check out the Esurance Insight, Make a Statement, Help the Environment, & Save on Auto Expenses.
And remember— the less you drive, the less risk you have of getting into an accident and having to file an auto insurance claim!
Off the road
- Recycle. It seems so simple, but sticking your bottle, can, or paper into the recycle bin helps preserve our natural resources immensely. Reusing non-recyclable containers and bags is another easy way to conserve.
- Buy smart. Look for products with little or no packaging, and buy larger sizes to avoid excess waste. In addition, buying reusable (non-disposable) products, such as razors, utensils, and cameras cuts down on waste and can save you money in the long run.
- Print less. Whether you're at work or at home, ask yourself: "Do I really need to print that document?" As an Esurance policyholder, you never have to print your auto insurance policy documents because they're always available to you in your online account! If you do print, try making your margins slightly larger and printing on both sides of the paper.
- Pay your bills online. Not only do you save time, the company saves paper by not sending you a bill. By communicating with our customers by email and automatically withdrawing payments when they're due, Esurance avoids sending millions of sheets of paper to our policyholders. We even plant trees to offset the paper we do use. For more on how Esurance helps save some green (for the environment and your wallet), check out
