Detroit, MI – September 29, 2008 – Esurance, the online car
insurance company, and The Greening of Detroit recently announced a partnership
on the Adopt-A-School Tree Planting Program. Ten Detroit Public Schools (DPS)
will benefit from this unique program that provides educators and students with
plant stock, tools and guidance to plant five to ten trees on their campus.
The Greening of Detroit's Adopt-A-School Tree Planting

For sixteen years, The Greening has worked with 34 DPS
schools annually, training 507 educators using environmental education
curricula, and impacting approximately 16,800 children. One of the first
programs The Greening uses to introduce schools and their students to
environmental stewardship is the Adopt-A-School Tree Planting Program. Through
this program students are given an opportunity to learn about their environment
and the important role trees play in having a healthy environment in a thriving
city. Students see first hand how the appearance of their barren schoolyards
that once looked unsafe and unwelcoming are transformed into an inviting and
safer campus to learn and grow.
"We are grateful for Esurance's support of the
Adopt-A-School Tree Planting Program. Our primary goal is to strengthen
students' science skills, while fostering our youth to become environmental
stewards." stated Rebecca Salminen Witt, president of The Greening of Detroit
"Furthermore we know trees create a safer environment in which our children can
learn and grow."
Concluded Kristin Brewe, Esurance Director of Brand and
Public Relations, "American children need more science education to stay
competitive in the global economy and more environmental education to help
protect our natural resources. Through the Adopt-A-School Tree Planting Program,
Esurance helps Greening of Detroit ensure that the youth of today become the
informed, proactive environmental leaders of tomorrow. We are very proud to work
with Greening of Detroit to make this essential program happen."
