Esurance Tackles Hunger and Donates School Supplies in Sioux Falls
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – August 21, 2007 – Esurance, the direct-to-consumer personal auto insurance company, discussed its ongoing support of The Banquet, a program created in 1985 to feed the hungry in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Banquet is one of four organizations in Sioux Falls that provides meals for people living on limited budgets, one-third of whom are homeless.
Esurance associates in Sioux Falls volunteer twice a year to help serve meals at The Banquet’s soup kitchen, and recently participated in The Banquet’s Project S.O.S. (Supply Our Students) for the first time. Project S.O.S. seeks to provide deserving students with the school supplies they need to pursue their educations.
According to Jeff Taylor, Manager of the Phone Center at Esurance’s Sioux Falls office, "Project S.O.S. was started nineteen years ago when a Banquet volunteer found a patron in tears because she couldn’t afford to buy school supplies for her children. Our employees were touched by this story and wanted to find a way to get involved."
In just two weeks, the Sioux Falls associates collected over 19,000 supplies, including backpacks, pencils, paper, and rulers, worth an estimated $5,000. Added Taylor, "This drive couldn’t have been successful without the exemplary teamwork and dedication of our Sioux Falls employees."
