FAQ: Getting a Quote

What if a driver never drives one (or more) of the cars?

Never say "never!" Even if a driver has never driven one (or more) of your cars, there's always a possibility that it could happen. Maybe your spouse or partner's car is in the shop and your car is the only option in an emergency. Or maybe you've forbidden Junior from driving your brand new luxury car, but he took it out anyway. Either way, it's important to account for all drivers when you get online auto insurance quotes.

Even if one (or more) of your drivers never drives one (or more) of your cars, we still require you to put them down as an occasional driver. Why? If a driver is listed on your auto insurance policy as never driving a particular auto and that driver later gets into an accident while driving that auto, this may slow the claims process or even result in a denial of auto insurance coverage.

In certain states, you'll have the option to exclude drivers from your policy. Use this option for drivers you specifically don't want covered by your policy, rather than including them as an occasional driver.

If you live in California, Virginia, or New York, we'll ask you to match drivers to each car on your policy. Each person's name will be listed under each car and you must select whether that person is the “primary driver” or an “occasional driver” for that car. Each car must have one—and only one—primary driver. Any other drivers should be considered occasional drivers, provided you do not wish to exclude them from your policy, or live in a state where that option is unavailable.

We'll leave Junior's punishment to you, but be advised that you too could be punished if someone who's not on your policy is caught driving your car. Unless you decide to exclude a specific driver, it pays to insure all your drivers. Online auto insurance quotes will prove that it doesn't cost much more to insure another driver. In most states, Esurance even offers a multi-car/multi-driver discount to help you save money. Get an online auto insurance quote from Esurance today, and see how much you could save!
