How Trees Can Affect Your Auto Insurance
Trees are cool. They mark the seasons, provide shade and protection, beautify our communities, and purify the air we breathe. Trees can also help save you money on your auto insurance. It may sound strange, but it's true.
Studies indicate that
trees enhance traffic safety. Tall trees— like tall buildings— make a street look narrower, which slows drivers down as they compensate for decreased maneuverability and line of sight.
Similarly, trees that are spaced closely together can help drivers go slower by creating the perception of speed as they go by quickly. Reduced speed, especially in residential areas, results in fewer accidents. And fewer accidents, of course, means better
auto insurance rates.
Additional Perks of a Tree-Lined Street
In addition to calming traffic and reducing insurance rates, trees offer numerous other benefits:
• They
help reduce crime & make streets safer
• They protect pavement &
extend the lifespan of streets
• They reduce noise & air pollution and offset
carbon emissions
Esurance and Trees: 85,429 Planted
On September 24, 2005, we planted our first tree with T.R.E.E., Inc. as part of our ongoing green initiative. Since then we've planted
85,428 more, which equals roughly
53 a day! We planted most of these trees in urban areas for the maximum possible benefit to local communities and neighborhoods, and estimate that they've absorbed thousands of
tons of harmful CO2 emissions.
Save a Windshield, Plant a Tree Update: 5,520 Planted SoonLast September, in a partnership with
HSG, we launched the Save a Windshield, Plant a Tree program to plant one tree for every windshield claim that resulted in repair instead of replacement. By the end of the year,
5,520 Esurance customers had already opted to repair their damaged windshields.
Have a damaged windshield?
It's not too late to get in on the action.
