Esurance Celebrates Diversity and Raises Funds for Local Charities

Esurance discussed one of its most recent efforts to celebrate diversity and give back. In November, Esurance associates at offices across the country hosted a dessert potluck, to celebrate the array of cultures that make up the Esurance workforce. Funds raised during the event allowed the company to donate to community food banks and other local charities.
In a novel twist on the traditional fund-raising bake sale, Esurance associates from several regional offices made homemade desserts from around the world. For example, at Esurance corporate headquarters in San Francisco, sweet treats from 8 countries ranging from India to Italy were showcased. Associates who wanted to partake in tasting the desserts were asked to contribute at least $5 to benefit local charities. Esurance pledged to match all associate donations through its charitable gift match program. The creator of the winning dessert received $50 to donate to a charity of their choice.
Sandy Hynes, Esurance's Vice-President of Human Resources, stated, "Giving back has always been at the forefront of Esurance's corporate philosophy, and our associates are equally enthusiastic about doing their part, particularly during the holidays. It was great to see that, even during these tough economic times, everyone was so eager to give — by cooking or donating funds. It was also great to see our associates get together and discuss diversity in such a positive way, with delicious representations of unique cultures. Charitable efforts like these are a positive way for any company to bring associates together."
Several worthy charitable organizations across the country benefited from the $2,500 raised through the effort. In addition to plans to expand the fund-raiser next year, Esurance offices are currently engaged in efforts to provide gifts and food to children and families in need during this holiday season. Hynes concluded, "As companies assess their charitable giving during these tough economic times, we can make it easier for associates to give by coordinating several smaller efforts throughout the year and still have meaningful impact. We all just need to be a little more creative about how we organize our charitable efforts in the year ahead."
