Driving safety organizations make the road a safer place

Since we're in the business of providing auto insurance, obviously, we're interested in promoting safe driving. However, we're not the only ones who take an interest in making our roads safer. Driving safety is such an important issue that several government and private organizations are dedicated to educating people on the subject.

Here are a few of our favorite sites where you can learn safe driving techniques, which, apart from saving lives, could also save you money on your car insurance rates.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) monitors transportation safety and improvements needed in the air, land, and water. For more information about studies the NTSB has conducted, visit their website.

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics website provides statistics on traffic accidents.

The National Safety Council (NSC) seeks to improve safety on the road, in the workplace, and at home. Go to the NSC for tips you can use to drive safely and avoid auto insurance claims.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation, is the safety authority on auto safety issues and regulations. Check out the NHTSA for information about accident statistics, driving safety tips, and vehicle crash test ratings.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is a great place to get information about your vehicle's crash test performance, since crash tests are good indicators of how your vehicle will perform in an accident.
