The basics
What types of vehicles does ATV insurance cover?
ATV insurance will cover any vehicle designed for off-roading that features a handlebar-style steering device, completely uncovered seating, and 3, 4, 6, or 8 wheels. If you're in the market for an ATV policy, start your free quote here.
I've heard that my homeowners policy may cover my ATV. Is that true?
Yes, but it doesn't necessarily offer the same level of coverage that an ATV-specific policy provides. Your homeowners policy can cover use of your ATV on your property, pay medical expenses if you or someone else was injured while riding your ATV, and help you replace a stolen ATV — but it won't necessarily cover you when riding on state-owned land. Check the specifics of your homeowners insurance policy to see what kind of protection it provides.
Is ATV insurance legally required?
Though your homeowners policy may protect your ATV, some states require unique coverage for your recreational vehicle if you ride your ATV on state-owned land (i.e., off your own property). Check with your state's department of insurance to find out if ATV insurance is required in your state.
How many ATVs can I cover under a single policy? How many riders?
You can protect as many as 4 vehicles and 5 riders when you buy your policy through Esurance. Plus, when you insure more than one vehicle, you could qualify for a significant discount.

How can I get my ATV insurance quote?
Esurance can help you get a customized ATV insurance quote online in just a few minutes. You can also speak to an agent directly at 1-866-455-1980. We're available Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., PT.
What information should I have handy before I get my ATV insurance quote?
When you're ready to get a free ATV insurance quote, have the following information on hand:
- Details of the ATV(s) you want to insure
- Age
- Make
- Model
- Mileage
- Condition
- The names of people you want insured on your ATV policy and their driving histories
- Info about your current or most recent insurer
- Info on any safety courses you completed or safety devices installed
What factors should I consider when comparing ATV insurance policies?
Take note of the deductibles, limits, and optional coverages available, and aim for consistency. That way, you can compare policies based not only on costs, but also on the extent of coverage.
When you get a quote, note how different coverage options, limits, and deductibles affect the overall policy premium. Keep in mind that:
- Higher deductibles usually mean lower premiums, but you'll assume more risk in the event of an accident or theft.
- Lower limits on certain coverages will also reduce your premium, but might not provide adequate protection if you need to file a claim.
Check the company's financial reliability on A.M. Best to make sure your provider will be there for you in the event of a claim.
Do you provide ATV insurance in my state?
ATV riders in all 50 states can get ATV insurance through Esurance's partner, Progressive. Please note that this product isn't available in Washington, D.C.
Does ATV insurance vary by state?
Yes. Insurance regulations do vary by state, so options and discounts may differ depending on your location. However, ATV insurance through Esurance covers the same number of vehicles and riders per policy in all 50 states.
If I buy my ATV insurance policy today, when can I start my coverage?
You can specify your policy effective date during the quoting process.
If you were previously insured, make sure your prior policy's end date is on or after the new policy's start date to avoid a lapse in coverage.
I haven't purchased my ATV just yet. Can you still give me an ATV insurance quote?
Sure, as long as you know the type of ATV you'd like to purchase. If you haven't pinned down the exact make and model of ATV you want, you can still get a ballpark insurance quote for each vehicle you're considering. ATV insurance rates can vary depending on features and design specs, so the more details you have, the more accurate your quote will be.
