diversity and inclusion

It begins with our people

For us, diversity and inclusion begin with the
recruiting process. Our goal is to attract and retain
the type of people who will reflect and understand
our diverse customer base. In doing this, we
simultaneously build an organization that seeks out
new ideas and perspectives and ensures all our
people's skills and talents are fully leveraged.

Once on board, associates are provided with
numerous training and workshop opportunities
designed to help create a continuously open
and accepting environment.

It continues in the workplace

Our commitment to our associates is to provide a
workplace environment where each person is
respected, supported, and rewarded on the basis of
individual achievement and contribution. And to
foster a place where creativity and innovation are
encouraged and valued.

We also encourage and support numerous
volunteering efforts and our associates play a huge
role in our level of community involvement. Their
enthusiasm for so many varied causes and concerns
reflects both their uniqueness and their commitment
and inspires us to do more and more each year.

It comes full circle with our customers

By developing an exceptional organization with
innovative strategies for identifying new products
and services, we're able to meet the needs of our
diverse policyholder community more effectively.

After all, a respected and supported workforce is
better equipped to provide the skilled and friendly
service that our customers have come to expect
from us. Esurance celebrates the diversity of our
workforce and our consumers and takes pride in
supporting the communities in which they live and
work.

Recruiting

Esurance is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to diversity and to providing an environment where each individual is respected and supported. Our culture reflects these values and celebrates the individuals who make up our growing team. We hope that cooperation and teamwork will thrive in this culture, resulting in individuals and the entire organization achieving the highest standards of performance and potential.

Training for associates

Once on board, our associates are given access to a wealth of resources and training materials, including a Diversity and Inclusion Awareness workshop, an in-depth and interactive course aimed at preventing workplace harassment, and The Little Things Mean A Lot™ Workshop, which focuses on how seemingly little things can help make our organization highly productive, creative, and innovative.

Training for managers

Managers are also provided a range of resources and training designed to help them navigate the ever-changing workplace environment. Part of their training includes The Diversity and Inclusion Awareness Workshop for Managers, which all Esurance managers completed in 2009, and Employment Law Boot Camp, designed to support the development of future leaders.

Matching gifts program

Esurance takes pride in giving back to the community through a variety of charitable programs. The Esurance Matching Gift Program gives associates the opportunity to have donations to their favorite nonprofit organizations matched dollar for dollar by Esurance.

In 2009, a total of 247 associates participated in the program for a grand total of $84,565, which, of course, we happily matched.

Volunteering initiatives

Through our Give Time/Get Time program, Esurance rewards associates with paid time off for volunteering.

Additionally, when an associate volunteers 8 hours to one organization, Esurance will donate to that organization through Dollars for Doers.

Esurance Grant Program

Through the Esurance Grant Program, associates can vote for organizations they'd like to see receive a charitable endowment from Esurance. Last year, Esurance donated over $55,000 to associate-submitted causes. Winning organizations near 11 of our office locations each received a $5,000 grant and volunteer support from the company.

Domestic partner discounts

At Esurance, we're committed to equality and diversity — qualities we strive to bring to communities across the nation. As one of the first companies to offer discounts to domestic partners who list on the same policy, we also promote and sponsor Pride events around the country.

Community commitment

As Esurance grows, so does our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we live, work, and play. Last year, 17% of Esurance associates nationwide logged 1,586 hours of community service. They donated valuable time to volunteer organizations chosen through the Esurance Grant Program as well as many others. The causes that benefited from their volunteer efforts were as diverse as Esurance and included homelessness, veterans affairs, and the arts.

Urban reforestation

Since we wrote our first policy in 1999, Esurance has been committed to environmentally friendly business practices.

In 2005, we took this initiative a step further and began planting trees in or near our customers' communities to compensate for the paper that's inevitably used in day-to-day office life. Since then, we've planted more than 100,000 trees. A noteworthy accomplishment and one we're proud of.

Our award-winning commitment to diversity

Esurance has earned a 100% score in the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index due to our non-discriminatory practices in the workplace, with our customers, and in the world at large.

In addition, Clear Channel has named Esurance a recipient of its first-ever Bay Area Workplace Diversity Award. The award acknowledges Esurance's efforts to create and maintain a workplace where diversity and equality thrive.
