Marketing & Advertising:
What’s that Pink-Haired Girl All About?

That pink-haired girl is our "spokesperson," Erin Esurance. We realize it’s a pretty different approach for an auto insurance company, but Esurance is a unique company.

We get a lot of questions about our advertising, so we created this page to answer some of the main inquiries.

Why an animated, pink-haired "special agent?"
Auto insurance is a competitive category for advertisers. And some of Esurance’s competitors are pretty big spenders. We needed to do something different that would get people talking. Animation is a colorful way to stand out from the crowd (and is more affordable to boot).

We realize auto insurance is not the most exciting topic. That’s why we try to have a sense of humor when we communicate. Since our writers really like puns, "special agent" also refers to the insurance business. (Erin also works for the SIU, which, in the insurance industry, is the Special Investigations Unit, a team devoted to detecting fraudulent activities.)

While some companies would spend thousands of dollars researching just the right hair color for their spokesperson, Erin’s coif was voted on by our San Francisco associates among a dozen or so hair colors.

When did Erin Esurance make her debut?
In July 2004, Erin Esurance made her first appearance on the airwaves in select local markets. In 2006, Esurance started advertising nationally and Erin was seen on TV sets throughout the U.S. In early 2007, Erin was featured on the cult classic, "Space Ghost" and in the 3-minute adventure, "Carbon Copy." This feature has appeared on AOL, F/X, and at film festivals around the country.

Which agency do you use to create the ads? Who does the animation?
Esurance has an in-house creative team that handles advertising and communications for the company.

To help bring Erin to life, we’ve teamed with the wonderful talents at W!LDBRAIN. The award-winning studio is based in San Francisco, which allows our creative teams to collaborate face-to-face.

What makes Esurance one of the fastest growing auto insurance companies in America?
If you’re talking numbers, Esurance’s year-over-year growth in written premium has hovered in the ‘70s for the past few years, making us a pretty fast growing company. For more financial information about Esurance, please see reports at our corporate parent’s Web site, www.whitemountains.com

That growth is driven by our customers, thousands of whom switch to Esurance every week. We’re here working every day to make auto insurance better for our customers, and they’ve noticed.

I’ve seen that you engage in some environmental efforts.
What does Esurance do to "save some green?"

Esurance is committed to helping things grow while we grow. That means as our company gets bigger, our environmental footprint is getting smaller. We do this through eco-friendly business practices and environmental partnerships around the country. Find all the info you need on our environment page.

Can I download an Esurance logo or a picture of Erin?
We do have logos and headshots available for download. Click here to find what you need.

I'm actually a salesperson and want to get in touch with Esurance. How do I?
Esurance does not accept cold calls, and if you telephone, you’re unlikely to get a response. Please send all marketing proposals and media kits here. This mailbox is reviewed by a live person who assigns the items to the appropriate department. If you don't hear from us, it means we're not interested right now, so please don't send several emails to this address.

If you don't follow this procedure, we may not get to work with you, and that would be a real shame!
