Featured event

Despite Hurricane Irene's efforts to put a damper
on the 2011 US Open, fans and players from
around the world made their way to New York
for one of the top tennis challenges of the year.

In our second year sponsoring the Open, we
distributed 2,150 MetroCards to attendees, helping
people get to the event safely and greenly. Esurance
sponsorship night, September 2, also focused on
our green initiatives with the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

Giving back with the Green Mob

The NBA may have been in a lockout for the majority of the fall, but that didn't stop Esurance and the Warriors from continuing their efforts to give back to the community. Kicking off a new season of Green Mob events, we teamed up for a beautification project at Fruitvale Elementary School in Oakland, California. Working with the students, we spruced up their community garden by cutting back vines; planting lettuce, strawberries, and lemon trees; and painting the planter boxes in Warrior's classic blue and gold hues.

Esurance helps fans get inside Outside Lands

Outside Lands welcomed nearly 180,000 music fanatics to Golden Gate Park this summer and Esurance helped many of them get there in as green and hassle-free a manner as possible. With limited public transportation and parking available near the park, Esurance shuttles provided roundtrip service to and from Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for more than 3,700 people. We also teamed up with the SF Bicycle Coalition to provide a free bike valet service to another 3,330 fans. To promote these green modes of transportation, as well as carpooling, we handed out thousands of Esurance Insider bandanas to folks who checked in at our Lounge. Those spotted sporting the bandannas had the chance to win reusable water bottles, shuttle passes, meal vouchers, and VIP ticket upgrades.

    Field trip to Laurelbrook Farm

Through our partnership with NativeEnergy, Esurance supports the Laurelbrook Farm Compost Project. The Connecticut farm reduces methane pollution by increasing manure compost production. In May, students from Housatonic Valley Regional High School ventured to the farm to learn about the history of the project and to witness the technology in action. Two students from the group, who later delivered speeches on the importance of estuaries in our ecosystem, won $1,000 scholarships courtesy of Esurance.

All the cool kids carpool to Sasquatch!

In our fifth year sponsoring the Sasquatch! Music Festival, Esurance continued its efforts to keep the Gorge (and all the routes there) as green as possible. Collaborating with Zimride, we offered parking upgrades to the first 100 people who showed up with at least 3 passengers. Carpoolers also walked away with swag bags that included goodies ranging from VIP ticket upgrades to shower tokens and Gorge Bucks.

Esurance "Go Green Night" with the Warriors

Our Green Mob takeover of Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) was just the start of our Green Week collaboration with the Warriors in 2011. We also presented Go Green Night at Oracle Arena and rewarded fans who took public transportation to the game by offering a 2-for-1 ticket deal good for that night's game or a second game later in the week. Some lucky fans also received
T-shirts with $10 BART tickets tucked inside and reusable water bottles.

Esurance and the Warriors Green Mob BART

Esurance and the Golden State Warriors took to BART to promote green transportation to local commuters. Our CEO, Gary Tolman, and Warriors players Stephen Curry and Ekpe Udoh joined the Mob to pass out 500 BART tickets valued at $10 each. The event was part of NBA Green Week, promoting a variety of green initiatives to fans across the country.

Esurance, Green Team, and the Sacramento River Cats

Throughout the River Cats' 2011 season, Esurance was the exclusive partner of the Green Team Cleaning Crew. The Green Team made recycling the most convenient choice for fans by collecting recyclables twice during each of the season's 72 home games. We were also the presenting sponsor of Green Awareness Night, during which we worked with Zimride to reward carpoolers (with 4 or more passengers) with parking vouchers for future games and a chance to win a free iPod.

PAC-10 Green Night presented by Esurance

At Esurance, we like to save our customers a little green by being green. That's why we gave carpooling basketball fans free parking passes to the PAC-10 men's semifinals game on March 11 — which also happened to be Green Night, presented by yours truly. In all, 170 fans received passes by checking in at our booth on Facebook. That night, we also distributed reusable water tumblers to 5,000 fans and displayed green-living tips on the video boards in the Staples Center.
