    Climate Action Month

A lot can happen in one month, especially when you combine the greening powers of 2 eco-minded organizations. During the fourth year of our partnership with EarthCorps, we took to Seattle's parks and public lands during Climate Action Month to ensure Seattle can keep its nickname, the Emerald City, for generations to come. With the help of 2,868 volunteers, Esurance and EarthCorps completed 40 projects in 8 cities surrounding Seattle. These projects included the planting of 6,054 trees, removal of 84,724 ft2 of invasive plants, and the maintenance and mulching of 236,414 ft2 of landscape.

    Live Love Local Event

September marked the end of The Greening of Detroit's twentieth year in operation, and Esurance was right there to celebrate with them. In the months leading up to the event, The Greening of Detroit hosted dozens of events, from tree plantings to symposiums, all focused on its continued efforts to green and beautify Motor City. Esurance helped close a phenomenal year of accomplishments at the Live Love Local event. Focusing on Detroit's local food movement, the event gave attendees the opportunity to sample food and drinks from some of the city's hot dining spots, enjoy live demonstrations and music, and check out an Eco-Village for tips on how to live green.

    Sasquatch! Music Festival

In 2007, Esurance began working with the Gorge to bring recycling to Sasquatch. Two years later, that project resulted in keeping 4.5 tons — enough to cover 20 football fields — of waste out of the landfills. As part of the 2010 festival, in addition to continued recycling efforts, we promoted carpooling to the event through the Esurance Rideshare Rewards program. Everyone who signed up to carpool had a shot at winning cool prizes, including free water bottles, VIP upgrades, closer parking, and free music downloads.

Save a Windshield, Plant a Tree

Esurance, in partnership with HSG, the leading property and casualty insurance claims management company, launched a unique program to plant one tree for every windshield claim that resulted in repair instead of replacement. The Save a Windshield, Plant a Tree initiative began in September 2009, and within 3 months more than 5,500 customers had opted to have their windshields repaired instead of replaced. In early April 2010, Esurance and HSG planted the 5,500 trees in Madison County, Ohio. Three-year-old red oak, sycamore, white oak, and swamp oak were planted in an effort to restore lost prairie habitat with native Ohio trees. So far, 7,026 customers have opted to repair rather than replace, and Esurance will hold another tree planting this fall to reflect the current repair count.
