FAQ: Before You Get a Quote

How will a speeding ticket affect my online auto insurance quote?

People with speeding tickets on their records, can expect their online auto insurance quotes to be higher than they would be without the violation. Nobody likes to get high online auto insurance quotes, so the best way to avoid this fate is to drive safely. It sounds so simple, yet so many of us don't practice safe driving on a daily basis. Not only does this put us, and our fellow drivers, in danger, it also can cause a major increase in auto insurance rates if we get caught.

It generally takes 3 years for auto insurance rates to go back down after a violation. However, if you do find yourself in this position, there are a few things you can do to try to remove the violation from your driving record and keep your auto insurance rates low.

If you receive a speeding ticket be sure to find out if traffic school is an option. Although traffic school might look expensive and time-consuming, clearing the violation from your driving record could save you hundreds of dollars in future auto insurance payments! If you're an Esurance policyholder, chances are you use the Internet for your daily needs. The good news: if you qualify, you can attend traffic school online. That way you can do it on your own time (in your pajamas, if you're so inclined).

Another possible option is to contest your traffic ticket in court. Doing so could improve your chances of getting your ticket dismissed, especially if you attend your hearing and the police officer that issued the ticket doesn't show. If the violation never appears on your driving record, your auto insurance premium won't be affected!

Keep in mind, getting a ticket outside your home state doesn't mean your driving record's in the clear and the news won't get back to your auto insurance company. These days, nearly all states share information about out-of-state driving infractions. Remember, having a speeding ticket on your record means you'll pay higher auto insurance rates for several years!

Avoid receiving high online auto insurance quotes (and ultimately paying higher premiums) by slowing down and being cautious. You may think you're saving time by speeding, but just think of the potential time getting pulled over could cost you. Save yourself from a potential ticket, or even an accident— drive safely!
