Sponsoring organizations nationwide, big and small, is at the core of our
company's commitment to the environment. Below are some of the recent
green events that Esurance has supported.
Warriors Plant-a-Tree Day
The Golden State Warriors joined Esurance associates to participate in the NBA's
inaugural "Green Week," which took place from April 2-10. On April 2, Warriors players
Kelenna Azubuike, C.J. Watson, and Brandan Wright joined Warriors and Esurance associates, as well as volunteers from Urban Releaf, to plant trees in the city of Oakland, California near Oracle Arena where the Warriors play.

Climate Action Month
Esurance partnered with EarthCorps in Washington state to present the first-ever Climate Action Month. This month-long initiative led to some inspiring numbers. In total, 1,177 volunteers planted 1,945 trees and 3,353 plants. Plus, 5,133 square feet of invasive plants were removed, and 34,000 square feet of parks and woodlands were restored and maintained throughout the state. All in a month's work!

Splendor Car Wash
Esurance and Splendor Carwash, a waterless carwash solution provider, joined efforts to promote a co-branded, waterless carwash kit that can help drivers save up to 50 gallons of water per cleaning.

Earth Day with the SF Giants
Esurance and the San Francisco Giants celebrated Earth Day at AT&T Park by giving away reusable, fabric grocery bags to the first 20,000 fans. Throughout the game, fans were reminded of what they can do in their daily lives that will help ensure a healthy environment for all.

GreenWorks! Grants Program
Esurance partnered with Project Learning Tree to provide environmental education GreenWorks! grants to schools near our local offices. The grant recipients were chosen based on several factors, including their location in underserved areas, high level of engagement with the community, and student leadership of the program. Each location received a grant of $6,000, training in PLT environmental education materials, and volunteer support from Esurance associates in the area.

EarthCorps' 5th Annual Earth Month
Esurance and Seattle environmental partner, EarthCorps teamed
up in April to present Earth Month 2009. This series of
environmental restoration events brought together 2,800 volunteers in over 21 projects across 9 cities in the Pacific Northwest. For the past 3 years, Esurance and EarthCorps have worked together to ‘complete the cycle' by restoring urban forests and parks in the Pacific Northwest in the spring then planting trees, shrubs, and plants in the fall.

Go Green Night
Esurance was the presenting sponsor of Go Green Night at the Warriors game versus the Minnesota Timberwolves at Oracle Arena. As part of Go Green Night, the first 5,000 fans entering the arena received an eco-friendly reusable grocery bag. Additionally, players from both teams wore 100% organic cotton Adidas NBA shooting shirts during warm-up.

Friends of the Urban Forest Tree Planting
To further support Earth Hour and the fight against climate change, Friends of the Urban Forest and Esurance held a tree planting the morning of March 28. This was part of the city of San Francisco's Earth Hour by Hour, a series of sustainable events taking place each hour before lights out began at 8:30 p.m.

Earth Hour
Esurance celebrated Earth Hour not only by turning off lights (including one on our home page), but also through a very special carbon offset promotion offered for a limited time to both current and new policyholders. New quoters were able to qualify for the offsets by simply purchasing a policy through esurance.com/EarthHour, and existing policyholders by completing a short transportation survey. More than 5,000 current policyholders completed the survey to request offsets for their vehicles.

With the help of carbon-offsetting partner NativeEnergy, Esurance then offset the carbon footprint of one vehicle (per qualified policyholder) for an estimated 6-month period through contributions to carbon-reducing projects. The carbon offsets purchased by Esurance throughout the promotion supported the St. Leon Wind Project, a wind farm in Manitoba, Canada.

Golden State Warriors Turn Off for Earth Hour
Esurance was pleased to bring the Golden State Warriors on board to raise awareness for the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) Earth Hour event. The Warriors helped by turning off non-essential lights prior to the game and Pandy, the WWF mascot, raised awareness about climate change during halftime by throwing WWF tee shirts to an excited crowd.

Texas Trees Implements New Project
On March 17, the Texas Trees Foundation, along with Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, and Esurance's own Brand Manager, Melissa Chapman gathered at the Center for Community Cooperation in Dallas to unveil the Roadmap to Tree Planning & Planting. The project will allow planners to assess current tree cover, locate potential planting spaces, and then categorize tree-planting sites to maximize resources and optimize benefits. This is the first project of its kind and several cities have already adopted it for its innovative approach to using technology to efficiently manage urban reforestation.
