Health Insurance: Eat Lunch like a Prince
Just as important as having a comprehensive health insurance
policy is establishing healthy eating habits. With that in mind, Esurance has
put together some great ideas for eating a healthy lunch.
We all know
that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it's not the only
important meal of the day. As the saying goes, one should eat "breakfast like a
king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper." Here are few tips for
eating lunch like a prince every day, even if you have a hectic daily routine.
- Start at the grocery store. Keep lunch in mind and buy
things like whole grain or rye bread (to avoid soggy sandwiches), fruit, peanut
butter, corn tortillas, black beans, healthy lunchmeats, and veggies. If
your cupboards are well-stocked with convenient lunch options, it will be
easy to throw together a few of your favorites before work.
- Spread it on. Use fat-free spread instead of mayonnaise, and try
spicy mustard for an added kick to an otherwise boring sandwich. Tuna
fish, loaded with B Vitamins, potassium and healthy omega 3 fatty acids,
makes a great lunch sandwich and can be spiced up significantly with the
right condiments and extras.
- Make it fruitful. Fruit is an essential part of a balanced diet
but is often neglected on the lunch menu. Add a banana, apple, pear or
cluster of grapes to your lunch, or try dried fruit. While higher in
sugar, dried fruit contains just as many vitamins as raw fruit. And it's easier
to drop in a briefcase or backpack.
- Pack snacks. Raisins, nuts, cheese, granola bars, pickles, and
pretzels are all great replacements for potato chips, and will help ward
off snack machine temptations. Pack them in Ziplocs and toss them in your
lunch box. Enjoy healthy snacking all day long.
- Customize. If you don't have time to pack a lunch, opt for a deli
where you'll be able to custom build your sandwich instead of buying a prepackaged
meal. Order turkey, roast beef or broiled chicken breast and pile on the
healthy extras like tomatoes, lettuce and onion. Choose 7-grain or whole
wheat bread, and go light on the mayo or get mustard instead.
- Don't underestimate leftovers. If your lunchroom has a refrigerator
and microwave, bring in your dinner leftovers for a nutritious and
satisfying lunch. You can also make a large pot of soup, stew or pasta on
Monday, store it in small containers and have easy leftovers all week
long. Chop carrots, celery, and broccoli at the beginning of the week as
well and keep them in baggies for quick and convenient lunch additions.
You can
save a lot of money by brown bagging it at least a few times a week. Utilize
these nutritious lunch tips from Esurance and feel like a million bucks every
day. Esurance partners with eHealthInsurance, to provide
